About

The Dartmouth Almanac is an independent, locally owned guide to Dartmouth, Massachusetts. The aim is simple to state and slow to reach: if something exists, happens, happened or is planned in Dartmouth, you should be able to find it here.

It is free for residents and free for businesses to be listed in. When it carries advertising or sponsorship, those will be labeled, kept apart from editorial decisions, and never used to hide a basic listing behind a fee.

Standards

Sources on everything. Business records show where the information came from and when it was last checked. History entries cite their sources and say when accounts disagree. News summaries link to the original reporting or document rather than reproducing it.

No invented facts. Where we do not know an address, an opening date, a trail length, the field is blank. Software helps us find and organize information; it does not get to make things up, and a person reviews anything consequential before it publishes.

Private property stays private. We publish trails only where a land manager confirms public access, and we show yard-sale and classified locations at the street or neighborhood level unless the poster chooses otherwise.

Children. Youth sports coverage lists schedules and registration, not player profiles or photographs, unless a parent or organization has authorized it.

Data credits

Map tiles and some place locations are © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License. Tide predictions are from NOAA CO-OPS; weather from the National Weather Service; sun and moon times are computed. Business facts are verified against each business’s own public information or public records before publication.

Images

The faint chart under every page is NOAA nautical chart 13230, Buzzards Bay (final 2023 edition, U.S. Office of Coast Survey; public domain), reduced to its line work. It is decoration, not for navigation. The harbor scene on the home page is commissioned illustration for The Dartmouth Almanac, not a photograph of a specific place. Most section and listing photographs are the publisher's own; photographs of businesses are supplied by their owners or used under an open license, with the credit shown beside each one.

Not the Town

The Dartmouth Almanac is independently published and is not affiliated with the Town of Dartmouth. For official town business, use town.dartmouth.ma.us.
